Marco Rubio Distances Himself from "Age of Disclosure," Cites Lack of Evidence

​Last night Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared on the Fox News Channel show Hannity, and the first question was about the interview with him seen in the recent documentary ​The Age of Disclosure. Rubio, who has vacillated in his public statements about UFOs over the last eight years, distanced himself from the documentary, accusing producer Dan Farah of “selective editing” and conceding that there is no evidence to support the claims of the so-called UFO whistleblowers.

Hannity: I want to start this out with a fun question, because there are really serious issues involving national security, peace around the globe. I mean, you're at the highest level of discussions, and we're going to get into a lot of the hot spots and success and all of that but I've got to ask you, there is a show that's come out called The Age of Disclosure.
 
Rubio: Okay.
 
Hannity: I know—everyone asks you about it?
 
Rubio: Sure.
 
Hannity: It’s a new documentary. We had repeated instances of something operating in the airspace over restricted nuclear facilities. It's not ours, and presidents operate on a need-to-know basis.
 
Rubio: Yeah. So a couple of points on it. First, I'm not disavowing that. That was an interview done maybe three or four years ago when I was in the Senate so it wasn't recent. The second point I would make: I was describing the allegations of people who came forward. Some of these people were navy pilots, admirals, generals, whatever, that would come forward and say, that there were programs in the U.S. government that not even presidents were made aware of.
 
So, I was describing what people had said to me, not things I had firsthand knowledge of in that regard—a little bit of selective editing, but that’s okay because you're trying to sell a show there. But the fundamental comments—I haven't seen it—but the clips I have seen that people have shown me are fundamentally true and that is, there are things—we know this, this has been documented—there have been things that fly over the airspace—restricted airspace—be it where we're conducting military exercises and the like, and everyone in the government says they’re not ours.
 
And so, what I worry most about, just me personally, is some adversary, another country for example, has developed some asymmetric capability for surveillance or the like that we just are not prepared for, you know. We're looking for missiles and fighter jets, and they are coming at us with drones and balloons.
 
I remember, you know, when NORAD turned on the radars and started looking for balloons, all of a sudden they spotted a bunch of balloons flying overhead. And 90% of them were innocent, you know, things. A couple of them were Chinese. But we never looked for balloons because our radars aren’t trained for that. So that, really, was the point I was trying to drive at.
 
I can't comment on the rest of the documentary. It has, as I said, claims from people that were former admirals, naval fighters, people with high clearances in government. Some of them are pretty spectacular claims. I'm not calling these people liars. I don't have independent knowledge that what they are saying is true.
 
The one observation I had is, we had people that did very important jobs in the U.S. government who are saying these things. So we have people with very high jobs in the U.S. government that are, either (a) liars, (b) crazy, or (c) telling the truth, and two of those three options aren't good.
 
Hannity (laughing): And those are the only three options?
 
Rubio: I don't know. I don’t have the answer, and I don't have any point of—I don't want to call them liars. I just don't have any independent way to verify the things they’ve said.

​Rubio has teased alien UFO claims off and on since the start of the latest government UFO flap in 2017, particularly when speaking to UFO-themed media sources or on social media, before walking them back when mainstream outlets ask direct questions. Starting around 2020, Rubio began making cheeky social media videos talking about UFOs from “another planet,” and Pentagon documents referred to him as a true believer in flying saucers, but after three years of this, he started changing his tune. In 2023, for instance, Rubio teased that he heard “firsthand” reports from people in government who saw crashed flying saucers and then walked it back. Similarly, he claimed in 2023 to have had whistleblowers telling him for “years” about “flying saucers and aliens” while doing nothing about it, only to walk back that claim, too.
 
I experienced Rubio’s two-faced approach to UFOs personally. In 2021, I contacted then-Senator Rubio’s office for comment on UFOs for a New Republic story, and Rubio’s office told me that Rubio does not comment on UFOs and would not speak about the issue. He then released a social media video commenting on UFOs only days later.
 
Rubio has a history of walking back weird claims. In 2012, for instance, he announced that the age of the earth was “a dispute amongst theologians” and that he could not say whether it was billions of years old or a few thousand years old.
