Survey Finds UFO News Coverage Driving Increase in Alien Beliefs

A recently released survey conducted in July found that Americans believe more in extraterrestrial visitation and UFOs due to news coverage of the subject. The survey of 2,000 Americans, conducted by Talker Research, found that younger adults were more heavily impacted than older adults, and men were more likely to believe and to be excited about the possibility of alien visitation than women. According to the published report:

Our survey of 2,000 Americans asked people whether recent UFO or UAP news coverage has changed their opinion on the topic and found that 37% now believe more than they used to.

More than half (54%) say their opinion on extraterrestrials has not changed and 10% say it’s actually made them believe less, according to the research findings.

News coverage on UFOs or UAPs seems more likely to move younger generations towards belief — 54% of Gen Z have increased their belief due to recent news stories, with the impact falling with age. ​

The survey also found that, contrary to claims by ufologists and their allies in Congress, only 17% of Americans said they would be fearful of aliens or concerned about their presence, contradicting ufology claims of "ontological shock" and "civilizational collapse" should aliens reveal themselves.

The respondents also claimed, weirdly, that while news coverage shaped their UFO beliefs, they did not feel that alien-themed media impacted overall belief in aliens, perhaps reflecting the reticence of Americans to believe that their ideas are being shaped by media messages.

The long and short of it is that the propaganda campaign UFO believers instituted starting in 2017 to seed the media with stories about government cover-ups and UFO threats is working and is shifting the Overton Window and thus the beliefs of the audience for these messages.
