Happy New Year! It’s been a very long year once again, and it is time for my annual year in review column to sort it all out. Each year in pseudohistory and the paranormal seems a little darker and grimmer than the one before, with more people claiming to believe in alien visitation than ever before and every elite institution, from the government to the media to the billionaire class, corrupted by fantastical beliefs about UFOs and the occult.
If you received an Amazon or Barnes & Noble gift card for the holidays, may I suggest purchasing a copy of my book, Jimmy: The Secret Life of James Dean or the first release from my new print on demand series from The Jason Colavito Library, Hoaxing History: An Anthology of Lost Continents, Fake Cities, Phantom Manuscripts, and Other Historical Fictions, available in both paperback and Kindle editions.

News
Happy New Year! It’s been a relatively quiet week thanks to the holidays, but as we wave goodbye to this year’s winter celebrations, I’m sure things will begin to pick up again. In the meantime, you’ll see that my website has had a small refresh for 2026, as I prepare to celebrate my 25th anniversary as a writer. I published my first online pieces on my original Tripod website in 2001. The official anniversary is in April, and I’ll probably write something to mark the occasion when it comes around.
New in My Library
New this week: Quite possibly the most racist Atlantis chapter I have ever read and a great example of how fringe history feeds racism. George Mallison, a distinguished U.S. Navy officer and lawyer, wrote in 1929 that Atlantis was a white paradise whose empire fell due to race mixing. The chapter was part of a book devoted to explaining why the “menace” of Black people requires shipping them back to Africa in order to save “white” civilization.

News
This week David Grusch appeared on Megyn Kelly’s streaming show to give his usual spiel about UFOs, and he added the unsubstantiated detail that former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper oversaw UFO crash retrievals: “When he was the DNI, USDI and DIA Director,” Grusch said, “he placed people in critical roles to manage this issue both publicly and — I’ll just say, non-publicly as well.” Of course, “manage this issue” is rather ambiguous, implying more than it says.
Meanwhile, Harper Collins will apparently be publishing a new memoir by Lue Elizondo, tentatively titled Reckoning: The Unspoken Truth about UFOs and the Urgency of Now, which intends to discuss the connection between UFOs and “technology, security, faith, and the very identity of humankind”—i.e., Ancient Aliens-style bullshit. A listing for book on the publisher’s UK website gave a publication date of August 2026, but the listing was seemingly removed after social media users publicized it. The link now goes to a generic, blank template.

News
It has now been more than a week since Erich von Däniken died, but his legacy of throwing as much spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks remains as alive as ever. This week, conservative commentator Candace Owens slid comfortably into the same role that von Däniken once played, claiming on her streaming podcast that assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk once told her that he was a time traveler who was destined to die young. Owens asserted that shadowy “agents” monitored both him and her since their childhoods and these agents arranged for Kirk’s assassination in order to stop him from disturbing their plans for the space-time continuum and changing the future. The comments earned mockery and rebukes from her peers in conservative podcasting, many of whom had previously praised conspiracy theories about UFOs, Atlantis, and space aliens. So now you know where they draw the line.
