Frank Joseph and the Conference of the Crystal Skull

I am indexing again today, but I wanted to share with you this post from the Ancient Artifact Preservation Society annual meeting in Michigan this week. In the picture, you’ll see the former head of the American Nazi Party, Frank Joseph, posing with a fake crystal skull that he and his friends believe dates back to the Atlantean age. For all the Indiana Jones cosplaying that you see in the world of pseudoarchaeology, it’s rare to see a real-life Indiana Jones villain. I think, though, that the movies got a bit mixed up. I’m pretty sure the communists were the villains in the Crystal Skull movie.

I thought that the whole crystal skull thing was put to rest a generation or more ago. This stuff just keeps getting recycled and the word of "experts" continues to be accepted as gospel by some despite all the information that is out there.

I just came across a recent news article story on Easter Island by a supposed journalist. The two primary sources for it were Thor Heyerdahl and Robert Schoch. The apocalypse is upon us!!

Me too. Except for the "Mitchel-Hedges Skull" all were made in Germany. From what I recall, there is still some debate for the MHS. A superb example of human craftsmanship if nothing else.

If I remember correctly, the MHS was proven to have been a fraud, built by a French glass-maker or something similar.

Do you remember the source? I lost interest in the Crystal skulls a long time ago. I have always carried with me a certain amount of respect for the Craftsman. My own attempts at creating a Nimrod Lens from a piece of clear quartz has only increased the amount of respect. The MHS has been said to be made from one piece of quartz. If memory serves me correctly anyway.

One of the sources was a story in ARCHAEOLOGY magazine. You might be able to find it on their online archive.

I found the article. No mention of a French glass maker. The article did mention a connection I have long suspected but never confirmed.

Yes, that's the one. It was a French dealer who acquired and sold the British museum skull.

The MHS appeared AFTER Tiffany & Co acquired the first skull. With the level of craftsmanship going into the MHS...I would bet money someone at Tiffany is responsible for the work of Art. Had to be an expensive piece to commission. No wonder the family has never sold the MHS. They're still trying to recoup their initial investment.

Yeah I believe the thinking now is what you’ve said; that the MHS was directly inspired by the British museum skull. The timing definitely suggests and supports the idea.

No one has identified the Master Craftsman yet. I believe the suspect pool has been narrowed down to a handful of people from Tiffany. That's pretty cool. Thanks for the information.

The conference included presentations like "Rapa Nui: The Mysterious Moai Statues AND the Baleric Bronze; Etruscan Bronze of Spain." The conference ended with Bruce Hardwick and Duane Kinnart who were to "listen through all the programs and are spirit-led to share their own thoughts." Just imagine sitting through all that after a couple hits of Purple.

The Frank Joseph mention reminded me of something I recently came across.

I don't know if it's been discussed or covered here before. From November 1931 to January 1932, a French science fiction author named Rene Thevenin wrote a nine part series for the American Weekly. It was called "A Race of Supermen Who Disappeared 20,000 Years Ago".

It's exactly the kind of propaganda and pseudo-history that the Nazi Party would have made use of at the time, though I don't know if they did. Subsequent fringe historians in the decades afterwards certainly could have.

Oh, yeah, now that you mention it Kent, I remember seeing a TV interview with him filmed when the Ghostbusters reboot came out. He said he was interested in ghosts and mediums.

I guess he wasn't interested enough, because any history of people like the Foxes and other frauds like them from the late 19th to early 20th centuries would have laid out the facts that exposed them as cheats pretty clearly. He probably thinks Ed and Lorraine Warren were legit, too.

Languages take the cake for slacker majors. Four years of study produces a 3.0 GPA, BA degree, and the ability to can count to 100 and ask for another cup of coffee.

Said someone who cruised through four years as a Spanish major. Most prospective employers looking for people with fluency in a foreign language won't even accept an undergraduate degree as proof of qualified proficiency. Someone would be better off doing a marketable major and gaining some actual proficiency in a language by doing a Summer immersion program for 6 to 9 hours of credit as an elective or maybe for a minor. Then follow it up with regular visits to a local foreign language table. I met a couple business majors who took that route and they could blow me away in casual conversation at the Spanish Table.

Yes, a foreign language undergraduate major was a bad decision.

I know little about sociology but,

Criminology undergrad degree=: cop or probation officer

Art undergrad degree= Elementary or Montessori school teacher.

Sociology undergrad degree= Social services

Foreign Language undergrad degree= Starbuck's Barista of the week.

I found that Chinese got a lot harder in the 3rd year. There was no "cruise".

I asked my Islamic Theology professor "How many years of Arabic to study the Qur`an" and he said "Four". I once met a guy at a C-SPAN party and realized I'd seen him before. He'd been translating for a Soviet general in front of the Senate earlier in the week. While in college.

You're right about immersion but for Spanish immersion has been as simple as owning a TV for decades.

Again, condolences on your poor choices.

I cruised though a foreign undergrad language major. Following your logic I "met a lot of guy"s who had the same experience or found a undergrad foreign language major a waste of time for learning a language. The issue was easy majors not the decisions that people make after earning their degree in one of them.

Given recent immigration patterns it wouldn't surprise me to see a Junior College student from Brighton Beach doing Russian translation. On the other hand I seriously doubt that the Senate grabbed some 21 year old Junior WASP Russian major from Ohio to work as a translatior.

My condolences on focusing on Chinese rather than developing your reading and critical thinking skills in English.

You do realize that Kent has probably never taken an advanced sociology, art history, criminology or sociology class. He was just spouting received opinion to stir up shit. He is now butthurt because his own ox was gored when the discussion of easy majors was broadened.

I left out the instructions. "cao knee men" is a sign of progressiveness and forward thinking.

So the next time you are in your favorite Chinese restaurant, loudly greet your waiter with "cao knee men", and repeat as necessary. I'm sure he will enjoy it.
