Welcome to the first issue of the New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. It’s been a surprisingly busy week in the world of xenoarchaeology. Let’s see what’s new…
News
- Since my last issue of the Skeptical Xenoarchaeologist, ancient astronaut writer and Ancient Aliens talking head Philip Coppens died. I wrote an obituary here.
- Based on the feedback I’ve received on my reviews of Ancient Aliens and America Unearthed, the latter program seems to be generating more buzz among viewers. I wonder if this is because it is more superficially plausible than aliens. This week, to accommodate reader demands, I accelerated my review schedule for America Unearthed because I had some extra time and the program was so wildly wrong this week. I don't know if I can keep up the punishing schedule of reviewing both Ancient Aliens and America Unearthed on the same day.
- Interestingly, for the first time this week almost as many people came to my website after searching Google for America Unearthed star Scott Wolter than for Ancient Aliens star Giorgio Tsoukalos.

- I want to remind everyone that if you haven’t picked up the current issue of Skeptic magazine (vol. 17, no. 4), be sure to check it out. My new article, “Did Native Americans Discovery Europe in 60 BCE” is in this issue, and it’s a good one!
- I’ve also released my next JasonColavito.com Classic Reprint, Ophiolatreia: Serpent Worship, an 1889 miscellany of serpent lore believed to have been written by Hargrave Jennings, a Rosicrucian author. This book provides an interesting object lesson in how the same evidence used by David Icke and Jim Marrs to suggest the existence of alien lizard-people on earth was also used more than a century earlier to suggest that all religion was really phallus worship!

- I finished work this week on my newest classic reprint, The Great Flood by James Frazer, a classic study of world flood mythology. I’m waiting on the proof to see how it turned out; the printer claims that the cover file was the wrong size even though it met the specifications to the pixel, so I’m not sure what that’s all about. I’ll have to see when the proof arrives.
- After I questioned the existence of America Unearthed star Scott Wolter’s honorary master’s degree, he responded to me and admitted that not only is it not recognized by any university, it was also made of whipped cream. I wish I was making that up.

- I’ve now released my newest reprint, The Great Flood by James Frazer, a classic study of world flood mythology. It’s a great addition to the library of anyone interested in creationism, flood myths, and alternative history. It’s a print edition right now; I hope to have an eBook edition ready in the next week or two.
- I also obtained and released the financial statements for America Unearthed, which became public record when the program applied for government funding. It’s an enlightening read.

- I’ve released my edition of James Frazer’s handbook of world flood myths, The Great Flood, as an eBook for all of you who would prefer to read it electronically.
- I’ve been invited to debate an H2 “celebrity” on a radio program next month, but the invitation is contingent upon the “celebrity” accepting, so I can’t reveal the name or the program until the arrangements are final.
- I’ve also been told that in less than two weeks I’ll finally have the page proofs for Cthulhu in World Mythology. After a long wait, it’s almost here!

- I was interviewed this week for an ITN report on ancient astronauts. It was scheduled to air on Friday but got bumped due to the Russian space rock incident. There is a limit to how much outer space news there can be in a day. I’ll let you know when or if the report is rescheduled.
- I released my newest classic reprint this week, a 150th anniversary edition of Curiosities of Indo-European Tradition and Folk-lore by Walter Keating Kelly. The 1863 book is a treasury of myth and legend, including rare stories about witches and werewolves, as well as a clear and direct account of the so-called “Hamlet’s Mill,” proving that alternative historians don’t know what they’re talking about when they claim a lost civilization invented the story to record advanced scientific principles.
- I’m also scheduled to start work this week on reviewing the proof pages for Cthulhu in World Mythology, which is scheduled to go on sale next month!

News
- We’ve finally reached the end of the first season of America Unearthed, which means that I’m free from writing lengthy reviews for at least a few months!
- Unfortunately, the page proofs for my new anthology of my essays, Faking History, didn’t quite meet my quality standards. Unbeknownst to me, I apparently made the header on the even pages a sixteenth of an inch larger than the odd pages, resulting in misalignment. So, I’ve fixed it and hope to have the book ready for purchase by this time next week.
- The publisher hasn’t provided me with more page proofs for Cthulhu in World Mythology, so I don’t know how this is going to affect the release date. I will keep you posted as I learn more.

All of the pieces have been newly revised and updated, complete with full academic references, for a fascinating and useful guide to the unexplained. - In case you missed it, H2 displayed my 2004 article “Charioteer of the Gods” on the season premiere of America’s Book of Secrets this week as an example of “mainstream” skeptics who are blind to the truth of ancient astronauts and who are suffering from religious panic. Details are in my review, linked below.

- Earlier this week Ancient Aliens talking head and GodTube.com cofounder Jason Martell threatened to sue me for criticizing him, and he sent out a mass email to his fans asking them to send me hate mail. This spawned several vulgar messages and one death threat.
- I also received a threat of grievous bodily harm from a viewer of America Unearthed, who demanded I stop critiquing the program upon pain of injury.
- I spoke with Dr. Sara Seager of MIT, who appeared on Ancient Aliens. She confirmed that Prometheus Entertainment sliced and diced her interview to make her sound like she supports ancient astronaut views, and they are continuing to reedit material from her 2009 interview to keep her on the show even after she stopped cooperating with them. (There is nothing illegal about this, although it is ethically dubious.)
- I spoke with a representative of History and H2 this week who wanted everyone to know that their programming is meant as entertainment.
- On a lighter note, the editor of the journal Paranthropology has asked me to contribute a critique of their recent article about trans-dimensional UFO beings invading our brains for their next issue.

- I am done with the layout and design of my book about America Unearthed, but I’m not sure whether to submit the files for printing. I’ve got calls in to Industrial Timber and Lumber, the company that owns the Pennsylvania land (managed by Chagrin Land Management) where the show found a “Freemason” ritual bath house (actually a spring house) and which Scott Wolter accused of a conspiracy. They haven’t given me a statement yet (indeed, no one I spoke with at the company could find anyone who knew anything about the show), but I just know a statement will arrive two minutes after I send in the files for printing.
- While the publisher had scheduled Cthulhu in World Mythology for publication at the beginning of May, it looks like it will be more like late May. I will keep you updated on the latest delays as the publisher sends them to me.

- The print edition of Unearthing the Truth: A Critical Companion to America Unearthed Season One is now available! The book contains freshly revised versions of all of my reviews of America Unearthed, newly written essays on the historical background of each episode, an exclusive essay on the origins of America Unearthed, and a revised and expanded version of my America Unearthed parody “America Unhinged.”
- Unfortunately, there seems to be a glitch with Kindle Direct Publishing that’s preventing me from importing the book for an e-release, so it looks like the eBook version is going to take an extra week or so to complete.
- Tomorrow begins my term of jury duty, so my blog postings will be sporadic until I am done with jury duty.

News
- If you have not yet heard, A+E Networks, the parent company of H2, has sent me a cease-and-desist order demanding that I halt sales of Unearthing the Truth, my book about America Unearthed, because the “talent” for the show complained that my book (a) could be confused for an official network product and (b) “copied” show talent Scott Wolter’s 2006 book The Hooked X in its use of the “unique” hooked X figure on the cover. As a result, Unearthing the Truth will not be available for sale until this issue is resolved, probably this week. I have agreed to add the word “unauthorized” to the cover to distinguish my product from A+E’s product, but I am disputing A+E’s and Wolter’s right to claim control over the hooked X figure, which is a public domain figure from the Kensington Rune Stone.
- I’m guessing it’s no coincidence that the network issued its order just before America Unearthed got a trial run on the much more widely-seen History parent channel (roughly ten times the viewers) and began its international run on networks outside the United States.
- In happier news, Cthulhu in World Mythology is (finally) almost done! I’m finishing up corrections on the page proofs, which means it should be available for sale very soon.

News
- As I reported on my blog this week, A+E Television Networks and I have reached an agreement to resolve their concerns about the cover of my book, Unearthing the Truth. As a result, they have dropped all claims against the book’s cover, title, and description. The book will be back on sale next week after I have had the new cover printed.
- I’m still waiting on the last few pages of page proofs for Cthulhu in World Mythology. Once those are done, probably this week, we should be just about ready to release the book!

News
Fortunately or not, this was a relatively quiet week, so I don’t have too much to share. My big news this week was A+E Television Networks giving me a statement disclaiming any involvement in or responsibility for Scott Wolter’s work outside America Unearthed. I also learned, as I will report in a blog post later today, that Scott Wolter’s wife Janet and “historian” Alan Butler are planning to accuse the Grange, an agricultural fraternal organization, of being a secret pagan goddess cult hidden here in America.

News
- I’ve had some interest from publishers on a couple of new projects I’m working on, and I’m hopeful that this may mean a new book with wider distribution coming in the future. However, it’s too soon to know for sure. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
- I also received odd news that a short story accepted for publication in an Australian anthology four years ago is finally going to be published this year now that the long-delayed volume is finally being readied for print. I assumed that Paroxysm Press canceled the book because I never heard anything from them. I’ll have more details when it’s actually published.
- The newsletter will be taking a week off next week for a summer break, but I will continue to be updating my blog throughout the week.
