I wasn’t planning to post anything today since it is a national holiday, but I had a hard time resisting after gigantologist Terje Dahl from Tuesday’s Search for the Lost Giants stopped by my blog to promote his website. The Norwegian explorer wanted my readers to view his web pages on the dangers of gigantology and the advanced technology of the Denisovans, the ancient human species that occupied parts of Asia down to about 40,000 years ago. I was being generous when I excused Dahl’s references to the advanced technology of the Densiovans as a relative comparison between the Denisovans and contemporary Cro Magnon humans in Europe. It turns out that I gave him too much of the benefit of the doubt. Dahl maintains that fringe researchers and archaeologists whom he refuses to name have warned him that his research into giants is “dangerous,” but he says that no one will tell him why it is dangerous. He notes, though that he has been “discredited” for his research. It’s not hard to see why. He relies on fringe books, willful misinterpretation, and fabricated claims to support his ideas, which have a disturbing racial tinge. According to Dahl, the Denisovans had “high speed drilling,” and he knows this because—and try to follow this—the pyramids were built by advanced technology and the Egyptian gods invented such technology; therefore, the Denisovans were technological sophisticates who were mistaken for gods. This is the gigantological version of the ancient astronaut theory. He goes on to bring in all the greatest hits of ancient astronaut and lost civilization theories, from the supposed high tech construction of the Great Pyramid to allegations of ancient Egyptian light bulbs, and even the long-discredited claim from Zecharia Sitchin that the cartouche of Khufu found in the relieving chambers above the Great Pyramid’s King’s Chamber are fraudulent. He even repeats the claim that the pyramid is at the “center of the earth’s landmass,” a claim first made by Charles Piazzi Smyth in 1864, but wrong even then, as I noted in 2012. He bases all of this on a line from a 2010 Time magazine article, which quoted researcher Johannes Krause on the discovery of Densiovan bones: “The fossil was found with modern technology and ornaments, including a very beautiful bracelet,” he says. “It’s a big step to argue that the Denisova hominin created them — if you find a Coca-Cola bottle near a mummy's tomb, you don’t assume that the mummy invented Coke. But the coincidence is tantalizing.” Krause was using “modern” to refer to the types of artifacts created by anatomically modern humans like Cro Magnons (as opposed to Homo erectus or other pre-human species), but Dahl interprets this to mean that there was “modern technology” in the twenty-first century sense—despite the lack of any such thing in site reports. Dahl goes one to offer what seems to be a fake quote from Diodorus Siculus to support the idea that the Egyptians came from elsewhere. This quote is popular on mystery-mongering sites, but it doesn’t appear in Diodorus so far as I am able to tell: The Egyptians were strangers, who, in remote times, settled on the banks of the Nile, bringing with them the civilization of their mother country, the art of writing, and a polished language. They had come from the direction of the setting sun and were the most ancient of men. I believe the quotation originates with Charles Berlitz in Atlantis: The Eighth Continent (1984); I can trace it back no further. Berlitz was no stranger to fabricating quotations. He helped generate the fake Mahabharata passage popularized by David Childress. Diodorus actually says the following in 1.10: “When in the beginning the universe came into being, men first came into existence in Egypt, both because of the favourable climate of the land and because of the nature of the Nile.” Humans, he said, were indigenous to Egypt. Oh, and Dahl then descends into crazy racist ideas by arguing that the Egyptians had four races, over which ruled the “Nordic” people. “The divine kings, the ‘Gods’, of Egypt were often depicted as white skinned, blond, blue eyed and very tall people with Caucasian features and a long skull.” He recognizes that this is a problem because it’s racist to say it, but he neatly solves this by arguing that the “Nordic look” is actually a sign of Denisovan heritage—that Nordic people are literally a separate and superior species! Some speculate that the Egyptian pharaohs were a total different species than human beings. […] Our archaic cousins the Denisovans were genetically distinct from both Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthal but is believed to have interbred with both. A cross between a tall Cro-Magnon and Denisovans could have produced a very tall homo species with a very long skull! It’s convenient that no matter how fringe thinkers look at things—whether attributing history to Aliens, Atlantis, Denisovans, secret Jesus blood, etc.—it always ends up with magic white people having the imperative to rule. In fact, Dahl goes further than most fringe theorists and argues that the whitest of white people have the imperative to rule, that only true aristocrats are tall enough, white enough, and blond enough to be god-kings of giant extraction, at least until their genes filtered down to the masses through miscegenation.
These giant white super-gods failed in the end because they interbred with too many small non-white people and lost their brain power as each generation grew smaller and lost skull size and brain capacity. As a result, they instigated a catastrophic pole shift that wiped them out, commemorated as the Great Flood. Somehow this is all related to global warming, Nikola Tesla, and the 2012 Maya apocalypse. They really ought to have disclosed Dahl’s beliefs on Search for the Lost Giants. I’d think that having on a man who argues that a Nordic elite ruled over non-white people because they are the descendants of a separate and superior species of godlike super-geniuses ought to be enough to disqualify him from the History Channel. He joins the long line of individuals who have expressed racist and anti-Semitic views but have nevertheless received exposure on History’s fringe shows. Frankly, you’d think someone at Prometheus Entertainment (the producer of Lost Giants) would have learned something from the last time this happened—just a few months ago—when In Search of Aliens accidentally endorsed convicted anti-Semite Jan Van Helsing as a serious researcher in the glorious achievements of Nazism. Now we have Lost Giants endorsing a man who argues, in effect, that white people are a separate and superior species.

Obviously, Tesla used his Death Ray to generate the Tunguska blast to hide evidence such as this! It all makes sense!

So this guy is a slight variation on Andrew Collins, though Collins proposed his theories before the Denovians were found, and was therefore stuck using the much less sexy Swinderians for his super-people.

Only Caucasians have 2 to 7 percent DNA from Neanderthals. Darker skinned people from Africa do not have any, and would be considered a purer bloodline than the whites. Ironic. In some cases, brutish sports players seem to have more cave man DNA than say sedentary humans. It was probably the same in ancient times. It was also colder in ancient Europe than it is today. Egyptians did not invent the bi g headed tall skull idea. Other people did across the world. They had a different aesthetic and bound babies heads. It wasn't to imitate some kind of aliens.

I didn't know about the crocs either, until recently. It started with a guy in India who was spotted by researchers -- he trains crocs like you'd train dogs. They come up to him for treats, sit, wait, etc. So the researchers -- in Africa, along a river where people have been eaten by crocs -- took this on board to see if you could train wild crocs to avoid certain human-populated areas by the sound of a bell. If a croc could learn oprerant behavior, it shouldn't be an issue.

J, if what Whitaker and Aust are doing works, I can see the plausibility of trying operant conditioning in Australia. Of course, that depends on if the conditioning can have an effect on saltwater crocs!

Are you sure that different crocodillians don't differ too greatly in terms of their learning potential? Because to me that's far from obvious...

No, J, I'm not in Australia. I just know that they have an ongoing problem with salty attacks, and the last I heard, salties were starting to be found in areas with fresh water. I think any positive results from operant conditioning would be seriously considered as an alternative in the Land Down Under.
