There will be no blog today because I have to spend the day at the animal hospital with my cat, who needs tests done.

Last year my dog had a bad case of kidney stones that wound up requiring surgery.

Yeah, I rescued another cat last week, now I'm up to eleven. He is ancient, kinda feeble, completely blind from cataracts in his right eye, partly the same in his left eye and missing a few teeth. The other cats are none too happy but then, all but one of them were rescues too so they'll have to work it out.

Best of luck with your cat. I and my wife know how it can be. We have had dogs and when they are hurting, so are you. They become members of the family, and as such, you do whatever is needed for them.

Thank you for all the well wishes. After five hours of tests and waiting, my kitty was diagnosed with bronchitis and has to go on medication. I am not looking forward to trying to get him to take his pills twice a day.

When my dog went on a thyroid medication, I used those pill pocket things--delicious treats that wrap around the pill so the animal will take his or her medication like a good little boy or girl. I don't know if they make them for cats, or if a cat would want any part of that, but they work just fine for my dog.

At least it is something curable.

If you're using a pill shooter and the pill is a gelatin capsule make sure you moisten it with gravy or salad oil before sticking it in his mouth. The dry gelatin caps will glue themselves to the inside of the mouth or in the throat and not go down well. Good luck!

Pills are a lot easier than that crazy red liquid that my vet always prescribes.
