Yesterday, the former host of America Unearthed, Scott F. Wolter, announced on Twitter that he had taken possession of what he described as a journal containing the secrets of the Templars and Oak Island. He shared pictures of the leatherbound volume, whose pages are filled with English language cursive writing, apparently in pencil. “This journal arrived from Europe today,” Wolter wrote, “and contains shocking Templars in America secrets including the answers to the Oak Island treasure mystery.” However, even Wolter’s fans quickly sensed something was amiss.
As many quickly noted, the journal appears to be of the same type as one of dozens of commercially available, artificially aged journals sold on Amazon.com, Etsy, and elsewhere. Although there are some small differences, it seems likely that the journal Wolter has was customized from one of the commercially available versions.
Further inspection of the photos found several problems with the claim that the journal is of any great age. The leather appears to be freshly cut, and the stitching was done by machine, apparently with synthetic thread. The distressed pages, with their deckled edges, appear to be chosen for artistic evocation of age, and the unusually staining on the pages appears artificial. As paper ages, it generally darkens from the outer edge inward since the cut edge is most exposed to air. But the pages in Wolter’s journal are darkest at the center, consistent with artificial staining.
Wolter told his Twitter audience that he plans to have the journal carbon-dated and is busy investigating its Templar mysteries. He might want to start with the mysteries of Amazon.
UPDATE: Late this morning, Wolter announced that the journal is a modern, mass-produced book, but he insists that it is an artistic, evocative copy of a lost original because he thinks the text inside is copied from a real text. Since he previously said he wanted to carbon-date the book, it sounds like this is some post hoc rationalization.

Seeing this, I immediately thought of Andy White's "Swordgate". It's a modern journal. Only once that's pointed out by several of his followers does Scott say "Yes, but it's what's inside that counts."

I’m sensing a very strong force coming against everything Mr. W. does now! One imagines the ArchAngel Michael in a mountain cave and a holy spring bubbling outside the entrance. Twitter bots won’t help.

The “Swordgate” guy is now a “voting machine expert” (likely making at least six figures) and has become a big wheel among delusional Republicans who think the election was stolen from Trump.

Here’s some more recent news. In December, Swordgate guy attended a conference called “ReAwaken America” in Dallas that was described as a “QAnon-friendly event.” Our friend (along with many others in attendance) subsequently became extremely ill with Covid-like symptoms — but he claimed that his sickness was somehow caused by an anthrax attack! Mr. Swordgate recovered thankfully, but at least one other attendee died.

Nice to see that you're catching up. Now, about the name. You are posting under the name of an actual, identifiable person. That's against the rules here. "John Smith" would be okay. "O.J. Simpson" would not.

I confess that there could be some other strange reason for your weird obsession with my name that only your bizarre mind comprehends and that would likely be even more frightening than an attempt at doxxing. So why don’t you tell me why you’ve become fixated with my name, the steps you’ve taken to discover my identity, and what you planned to do with the information if you had discovered it? I will determine if your actions constitute doxxing and then we can both decide if I understand the definition of the word. Okay?

Wouldn't the current affair call any claims Wolter made about other artifacts into question? In particular wasn't, Scott Wolter the guy who 'authenticated' the Kensington Stone?

In the wake of the cider press vandalism incident I took issue with Wolter's insinuation that archaeologists were negligent in failing to pursue investigations into the so-called America's Stonehenge site. I merely stated that there has been no archaeological evidence to support fringe claims about the site even though there have been archaeological surveys all over the general area. Any investigations by professional researchers have debunked fringe claims about the site. Furthermore, archaeologists are hard pressed to investigate the multitude of endangered authentic prehistoric and historic sites in that general area and they simply don't have time or resources for this nonsense just to indulge the likes of Wolter. He refused to post my comments on his blog but did respond on the blog by threatening me with investigation by the police.because of my comments, which could in no way be construed as criminal. It does not surprise me in the least that he continues to censor content. I would be amazed if he ever agreed to an open debate with someone credible in a neutral setting.

Harold Edwards has accepted Wolter's challenge to a debate on Andy White's response to Wolter's tweet. Though I can't read Wolter's responses (lol) he is trying to get out of the debate because he apparently believes Mr.Edwards does not like him. I distinctly remember this being an open challenge with no "he doesn't like me" parameters in the two times I have heard Scott put this challenge forward. So we have another professional geologist willing to debate and Scott at this point is refusing to debate Mr. Edwards.

SW has made too many batshit crazy claims over the years to enumerate. This latest incident seems quite mild in comparison. It took 4 glasses of a decent Chardonnay to work up the level of BS tolerance required to look thru his Twitter feeds, or whatever they are called, to see public reaction to this particular unforced error. One hell of a pile on. For those more familiar with his career, is this an unusually high level of twitter traffic calling him out? The few times I took quick looks in the past the traffic seemed to be largely hoopleheads competing to see who could get their nose all the way in his rear.

So Prof, Ojakangas says he would not be qualified to peer review Wolter's work, so Wolter is a liar. What are we to make of that? We already knew Wolter was a liar, but this is a new data point. Are Wolter's lies worse than "Darrold Knowles"'s or "Anthony Warren"'s? I don'r know,

I am not okouran on the cast of characters here. So cant keep track of what is said by whom in the kensington stone affair. I also understand there is often confusion over the whole concept of peer review on Wolterworld. However, the extent to which Okanjas, or whatever his name is, would be eligible to serve as a peer reviewed for Wolter would depend on the precise nature of their relationship. It would also depend on the specific policy of any given publisher involved.
